After more than two months off, despite the recent test at the Rally Adriatico, the 2014 reigning “production” Champ, will be back inside the cockpit of the Lancer Evolution "33" Group N at the fifth round of the WRC season. The Max’s comment before the event: "The route is completely new for all. We will all be at a par and will fight for it."
Rome, May 18, 2015 Max Rendina, is ready for his new 2015 WRC adventure. With the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Group N prepared by MOTORSPORT ITALY Pirelli, and codrivered by Mario Pizzuti, the 2014 reigning “production” Champ,will be this weekend at the fifth round of the World Rally Championship season, the Rally of Portugal.
After the first four rounds, Rendina and Pizzuti have challenged for two, in Sweden and Mexico. After the last race in Argentina, they are second in provisional standings with 37 points behind the other two Italian’s drivers Linari and Tempestini, who are currently on 43 points. Rendina can attack the drivers at the top of the rankings in a race where everyone will be on a level playing field due to the changes made to the dirt track route differing substantially from the previous races here.
As usual, Italian Motorsport has made the best preparations, everything will be in top condition and certainly the experience of the crew in the 2014 edition of the race, one of the world icons on gravel races, will be ready to go in search of success.
Rendina will also see if he has regained the full functionality of his right foot, due to a fractured toe suffered in late March, for which he was forced into a long period of rest.
Max Rendina’s comment: "The Rally of Portugal we will fight all on equal terms for all drivers. With my codriver Mario we compete only for win and even though we have some best competitors we remain highly competitive. We will fight!".
The 2015 Rally of Portugal left the tourist region of the Algarve in the south of the country and moved to the North after 14 years of absence. For the occasion, the organizers of the Automobile Club Portugal have developed a completely new gravel roads, 16 Special Stages that from the 21st to the 24th of May next, the teams will report on a true "classic" rally from the past of this beautiful rally. The race, which will have its headquarters in the city of Porto in the structures of the Exponor Matosinhos.The battle start will be Thursday, May 21st at 20.01 with the first stage of Lousada. Then, until Sunday, May 24th will be the main tough challenge. The completion will cover a distance of 352.09, and the finish will be on Sunday afternoon.
